Three years later, we remember. October 7 is more than a date. It is the lives that were taken, the families that were shattered, the communities forever changed, and the stories that must never be forgotten. We remember the parents, children, grandparents, friends, and neighbors whose ordinary lives were interrupted by unimaginable terror. We remember those who survived. We remember the heroes who ran toward danger to save others. We remember those who were taken hostage. And we remember every precious life stolen that day. Behind every number is a name. The U.S. Department of Justice said on Friday that American and French law enforcement carried out a coordinated operation to dismantle what it said is a Hamas finance network that raised funds in both countries under the guise of humanitarian aid for Gaza. The department previously unsealed indictments against Omar Adhami and Abdel Adhami, Louisiana-based brothers charged with providing material support to a foreign terror group and wire fraud as part of the broader conspiracy. On Friday, it unsealed indictments against the man it says was at the “center” of the network, Saleem Alzaq, a resident of Gaza, and Raed Yusuf, of Florida.

Sept. 12 was Rosh Hashanah, the beginning of the Jewish High Holidays and one of the most sacred times on the Jewish calendar. The first incident was reported shortly after 2:30 p.m. at a home in the 100 block of Elm Avenue, where deputies found a Nazi swastika and other antisemitic graffiti on the exterior of the residence.

Not only is it the top show in Lebanon, which has been in a state of war with Israel since 1948, but it is or has been in the top 10 in nine other Arab countries that have different relationships with Israel.

We honor their memory, stand with their families, and reject any attempt to justify or excuse terrorism as “resistance.” May their memories be a blessing.

Jerusalem Coffee House in Oakland, Calif., has closed indefinitely as its owners prepare for a federal trial stemming from three lawsuits alleging that the Palestinian-owned coffee shop discriminated against Jewish customers. The shop announced the closure in an Aug. 21 Substack post, saying it needed to turn its “full attention” to the legal cases. Its last day of operation was Aug. 23.

The SB 1387 bill, which would expand the definition of ethnicity “to include Jewish identity” in demographic data collection, will now head to the governor’s desk. If the legislation becomes law, state agency forms that allow for voluntary disclosures of ethnicity or race would also need to offer a “Jewish” option.
