My heart aches. Screaming to the heavens. A few hours ago, while I was out on patrol in the Judean Hills, we were told to be on heightened alert. There had been a shooting attack in the Binyamin region of Samaria, at a natural spring adjacent to the Jewish community of Neve Tzuf. Then came the devastating news. Netanel Shakron, a father of six from Alei Zahav, had been murdered. And the circumstances make this even more heartbreaking. On the eve of Yom Kippur, the holiest day of the Jewish year, Netanel went with his eldest son to the spring to immerse, to purify and sanctify himself in preparation for the holy day. A jihadi Muslim opened fire. Netanel was killed. His son survived. There is a Jewish tradition that those whose souls are taken during these awesome days leading into Yom Kippur are especially righteous souls. Netanel went to purify himself. He returned pure, soul sent straight to the heavens. And as I patrol these hills today protecting Jewish life, I can't stop thinking about him, his wife, his six children and especially that son who went with his father to prepare spiritually for Yom Kippur, and came home without him. This is the reality too much of the world refuses to confront. While international headlines obsess over the politically charged narrative of “settler violence,” a Jewish father went to a spring in our ancestral homeland before Yom Kippur and was gunned down. This is terror. This is jihad. This is the evil we live with that the world ignores, and instead spreads libelous lies about us. And Jews living in Judea and Samaria are not an obstacle to peace because we dare to live, pray, raise families and immerse in a spring in our Biblical homeland. We are home. On this Yom Kippur, while Jews around the world pray to be sealed in the Book of Life, another Jewish family is mourning a husband and father who was murdered simply while preparing for our holiest day. May Hashem comfort Netanel's wife, his six children and his entire family among the mourners of Zion and Jerusalem. May Hashem protect every soldier standing guard over our people tonight. May we get rid of this jihadi evil from our land asap and model for the world true morality. And may the Jewish people have the strength, faith and clarity to stand proudly in our homeland and never surrender to terror. Netanel Shakron הי״ד. May God avenge his blood. Is something big about to happen? Or another diversion??? I'm writing this while once again in uniform, patrolling the Judean Hills and protecting Jewish life as the holiest day of the Jewish year, Yom Kippur, approaches. And there are some extraordinary developments taking place around us. President Donald Trump unexpectedly cut short his weekend at Camp David and returned to Washington. No official explanation has been given for the schedule change. At the same time, the U.S. State Department and American embassies across the Middle East have issued security alerts, warning Americans to exercise heightened vigilance and prepare for possible flight cancellations, airspace closures and sudden escalation. This comes as the Iran-backed Houthis escalate attacks against Saudi Arabia, including a ballistic missile attack toward Riyadh, while American warnings specifically note the possibility that Iran and forces supporting Iran could target U.S. interests. Meanwhile, here in Israel, Prime Minister Netanyahu appeared at the final massive Selichot prayers at the Western Wall before Yom Kippur and offered a special prayer for the safety and success of our heroic IDF soldiers and security forces, something, I think, he has done before. And now Netanyahu has reportedly dramatically shortened his upcoming trip to America. The planned Texas stop has been canceled, and instead of an extended visit surrounding his UN General Assembly speech, he is reportedly planning to fly into New York, speak at the UN and return to Israel that same evening. Does all of this mean something major is about to happen? None of us know. And none of us should pretend that we do. But standing here tonight in uniform, patrolling the hills of our Biblical homeland as Yom Kippur approaches, you cannot help but feel the weight of the moment. On Yom Kippur we say: “Who shall live and who shall die… who by fire and who by water…” Those words are never theoretical, and definitely not for our generation. We have lived them. But we have also witnessed miracle after miracle. So while political leaders deliberate and our soldiers remain vigilant, our responsibility as Jews is also spiritual. Strengthen our faith in God. Strengthen our unity. Strengthen our connection to Hashem. We do everything humanly possible to protect ourselves. We patrol. We fight. We prepare. But ultimately, we know Who protects the Jewish people. May Hashem protect every IDF soldier, every Jew in Israel and around the world, and all innocent people. May our enemies' plans against us fail. And may Am Yisrael be sealed in the Book of Life, security and redemption. G'mar Chatimah Tovah. Am Yisrael Chai!!!
