As Israel enters Yom Kippur - the holiest day in the Jewish calendar - one question sits at its very core: How can a holy God be in fellowship with imperfect people who sin? 🕊️ From the wilderness of Israel, this is the ancient picture Scripture paints. In Leviticus 16, we see two goats: one sacrificed, its blood carried behind the veil; the other sent into the desert, carrying away the sins of the people. Centuries later, Isaiah 53 echoes the same language - a servant who bore our iniquity, our pain, our affliction. “The Lord laid on Him the iniquity of us all.” This is the thread woven through the Hebrew Scriptures - the covenant faithfulness of the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. As we celebrate Rosh Hashanah here in Israel, remember the sound of the shofar. Psalm 150 calls us to praise the Lord with the trumpet - and in Hebrew, that word is the shofar, the ram's horn blown since the days of the Torah. But the shofar is not decoration, and it's not just an instrument. It's a wake-up call to the soul. This is a season to examine your heart, to reflect, and to turn back to God - a time of preparing our hearts for Yom Kippur. So ask yourself: How is your relationship with God? Are you doing justice? Are you walking humbly? Are you receiving the steadfast love of God, and walking in the way He wants for you? Wherever you are, if you hear the shofar this season, let it be exactly that - a wake-up call to return and walk in the ways of God. God bless you.
