The Trump administration has approved a $2.8 billion sale of precision munitions to Israel, among the largest deliveries of US weaponry to Israel on record. The package includes 40,000 one-ton bombs and 20,000 bunker-busting penetrator warheads, built specifically to destroy the underground tunnel networks Hamas and Hezbollah use to hide fighters, weapons, and hostages among civilian populations. This is the latest expression of a defense relationship the Trump administration has consistently strengthened since taking office, including reversing a partial arms embargo imposed by the previous administration and approving nearly $12 billion in major foreign military sales to Israel to date. The US-Israel alliance rests on more than sentiment. It is built on a shared strategic reality: both nations face the same enemies, from Iran's nuclear ambitions to the terror networks Iran funds and arms across the region. Israel is the only military in the Middle East that has consistently demonstrated the willingness and capability to confront those threats directly, at real cost to itself, protecting not just its own citizens but the broader stability of a region critical to American interests. What America gets in return for this partnership is not charity. It is a battle-tested ally that shares real-time intelligence, pioneers missile defense technology later adopted by American forces, and absorbs threats that would otherwise reach further into the region and beyond. Iron Dome, David's Sling, and Arrow, all developed through joint US-Israel investment, are among the most effective missile defense systems in the world, and that technology strengthens American defense capability too. Support for Israel's security is not a partisan talking point. It is a bipartisan recognition, reaffirmed by successive administrations of both parties for decades, that a strong, secure Israel makes the region and the world safer. Albert Einstein is usually remembered for his impact on scientific progress, but he was also a committed Zionist who spoke and wrote on the subject for decades, including helping raise funds for Hebrew University in Jerusalem and serving as one of its founding governors. This quote, published in the Manchester Guardian in 1929, demonstrates the core of Zionist movement as one for Jewish civil rights. Jewish national identity and the desire for self-determination in the land of Israel were not simply defensive reactions to antisemitism. They were rooted in something older and deeper: a spiritual and cultural tradition that had sustained Jewish communal life for thousands of years, long before modern political Zionism existed as a movement. Zionism is an expression of ongoing Jewish peoplehood and continuity, the same force that kept Jewish communities intact through exile, dispersion, and centuries without sovereignty.
